Organization & Role

Penang Port Commission (PPC) is the 'Port Authority and Regulatory Authority' under the Ministry of Transport. Meanwhile, Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. is a port operator licensed by Penang Port Commission.

Port Operations

The port operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. This ensures continuous service to meet customer needs.

SPPP handles various types of cargo including:

  • Break bulk cargo
  • Liquid bulk cargo
  • Dry bulk cargo
  • Containerised cargo
  • Butterworth Wharves: Break bulk and liquid bulk
  • Prai Bulk Cargo Terminal: Dry bulk
  • North Butterworth Container Terminal: Containers

Ferry Services

Ferry services operate from 5:20 AM to 12:40 AM, connecting George Town (Raja Tun Uda Terminal) and Butterworth (Sultan Abdul Halim Terminal).

Containers & Equipment

TEU means 'Twenty Equivalent Unit' - a twenty-foot container unit used as a standard measurement in the container industry.

Equipment used includes:

  • Rubber tyre cranes
  • Prime movers
  • Trailers

PELKON III - a highly integrated system for daily container operations that ensures efficiency and accuracy in container handling.
