Strategic container terminal which supports throughput capacity of 2.3 million TEU per year
North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) is a major container handling facility within Penang Port that handles a full range of container services including loading, unloading, storage and delivery with modern equipment and significant annual capacity. It was gazetted as a Free Commercial Zone (FCZ) on 1 February 2021, allowing import, export, transhipment and value-added activities under customs-free status. This FCZ status enables the terminal to serve as a strategic transhipment hub, especially linking Bay of Bengal traffic with Far-East and other markets, boosting its role in regional shipping and logistics.
