CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
The year 2026 marks a historic moment for the Penang Port Commission (PPC) as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of our establishment since 1956. This seven-decade journey demonstrates the strength of PPC's role in steering port development, supporting the economic growth of Penang, and contributing to the progress of the nation's maritime sector.
From a heritage port that served as a hub for regional trade, PPC now functions as a strategic regulatory body ensuring the port ecosystem remains efficient, safe, and competitive. This success is the result of the dedication of the PPC staff and the strong support of various stakeholders, including government agencies, industry players, and the port community.
Aligned with the theme “Steering the Future from Heritage to Horizon,” PPC remains committed to preserving our glorious port heritage while charting a progressive and sustainable future. In this context, Penang holds great potential to continue growing as a premier cruise tourism destination in the region.
PPC, along with its strategic partners, will continue to strengthen the facilities and infrastructure at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT). This ensures that the tourist experience and cruise ship handling remain at the highest level, while simultaneously elevating Penang as a regional maritime tourism gateway.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) for the support, guidance, and trust given to PPC in executing its port regulatory mandate. My thanks also go to the port users including ship operators, travel agencies, the maritime community, and all industry partners for their close cooperation and continued confidence in PPC’s role.
This 70th-anniversary celebration is not merely a historical commemoration but a symbol of a new spirit to continue moving forward. With the solid foundation built over seven decades, I am confident that PPC will continue to be an authoritative, innovative, and resilient organization in steering the future of the port from a glorious heritage toward a hopeful horizon.
Thank you.
